Admission to the Institute
Messianic Life Institute offers programs leading to Masters and Doctors degrees in two disciplines -- Messianic Jewish Theology, and Biblical Counseling. Although all MLI courses are taught on a graduate level, a student having no undergraduate degree may be provisionally admitted if he or she is believed to be qualified. [Return to Top of Page]

In order to be admitted to one of MLI's degree programs, a prospective student must (1) have sufficient academic ability and spiritual maturity to be successful in graduate-level biblical study, (2) possess good character as measured by biblical standards, (3) be in substantial agreement with MLI's doctrinal beliefs. Admission to the Masters Program
Students who have previously earned an undergraduate degree in any subject will be presumed academically qualified for admission to MLI's Masters degree programs. Students who apply for admission without a previously earned undergraduate degree will be evaluated for academic ability through testing and other means and, if deemed qualified, will be admitted. The reason an undergraduate degree is not an absolute requirement for admission to MLI is that, in biblical studies and theology, graduate education does not build on undergraduate courses in the same way as in some other fields (e.g. mathematics). That notwithstanding, all applicants must demonstrate prerequisite preparation, including substantial Bible knowledge and significant skills in English comprehension and writing. Admission to the Doctors Program
The requirements for admission to a Doctors degree program are the same as for the Masters degree except that the doctoral applicant must have a previously-earned Masters degree. If the field of the applicant's Masters degree is not in biblical studies, theology or ministry, the applicant must demonstrate, or take courses to prove, biblical knowledge equivalence in his or her intended area of investigation. Transfer In of Previously Earned Credits
It is MLI's policy to transfer in and apply previously-earned credits of courses (grade B or better) completed at other schools of good reputation. Credit transfer is limited, however, to (1) courses that are relevant to a student's program of study and substantially equivalent to those taught at MLI, and (2) MLI's 18 credit residence requirement. Credit transfer is solely at the discretion of MLI's Admissions Committee. [Return to Top of Page]

Credit for Proficiency and Achievement
Credit may be granted to students who demonstrate special proficiency or prior achievement in relevant areas of their educational pursuit. For such credit to be granted, the proficiency or achievement must be shown to have direct equivalence to the program's requirements; in this regard, it is not the same as credit for life experience. Decisions on awarding credit for proficiency and achievement are made by the Admissions Committee on a case by case basis. [Return to Top of Page]

Credit for Life Experiences
MLI recognizes that certain life experiences have credit value if they are relevant to the student's educational program. Credit granted for life experiences is limited to 15 credits and is solely within the discretion of the Admissions Committee. [Return to Top of Page]
